I love discovering new fitness bloggers out there who inspire me and keep me motivated. Every Monday starting today I'm going to bring you a new person who is kicking trash with their fitness lifestyle!! I'll be doing a little Q&A with them and linking you to their blog!! I promise you'll come to LOVE every one of these peeps and you won't be able to resist their awesomeness!!
So starting now, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the beautiful Chelsea Alysse!!
To start out Chelsea, tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hey Jenaé's followers! My name is Chelsea but you may know me as ChelseaAlysse from my blog ChelseaAlysse.tumblr.com :) As my friends like to say I'm the little energizer bunny who just keeps going and going and going haha. I'm also known as Veggies by some because I've chosen to lead a vegetarian lifestyle for the past year. I'm a former competitive cheerleader who after seven years decided to try something new and turned runner and health addict. My blog talks about everything from lifestyle, balance, healthy eating, nutrition, and mainly fitness! I've been blogging for about two years now and I'm so thankful of everything that has come from the blogging community.
So when did you start working out and why?
I have always been physically active my whole life from a very young age. After cheerleading was over though I needed something to keep me active and sane lol. I gained some weight after a few months hiatus from doing nothing physically active and I just stopped being happy with my body. It was October of 2010 that I really put my foot down and decided to change my life after seeing Zuzana (bodyrock.tv) on youtube. I wanted to look in the mirror and be able to smile again and that was when I really got started and never turned around.
What does your current workout routine look like?
My current workout routine consists of training for a half marathon. It'll be my first half and I'm so excited. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are my running days and consist of speedwork, tempo runs, long runs, and easy runs. I'm actually following a training plan from runnersworld.com and their smart coach right now :) On my non-run days I do strength training in the form of Zuzana (still loving her!), weights, or pop pilates. Than Sundays are always my active rest days when I don't necessarily "workout" but I stay busy!
What is YOUR biggest excuse when you don't feel like working out?
Not wanting to wake upppp. I love my sleep and hitting the snooze button is a major problem of mine.
Who are your fitness inspirations and why? Name a person you've never met, and a person you know in real life.
Biggest fitness inspiration that I've never met is Zuzana. She's come so far herself in life and completely changed her life around for the better. She's the person that got me motivated in the first place to get up and off of the couch. I'll never forget her and I honestly thank her for everything that I know today. Real life inspiration has to be my boy-friend Joshua. He's the type of person that is good at no matter what he does. Once he puts his mind to something there is no turning back and he just puts all focus on that. Plus he's always pushing me to be better, working out with me, and inspiring me to be not just better in fitness but a better overall person :)
Have you ever encountered people that taunt you about being vegetarian or eating healthy? If so, how do you handle those situations?
Soooo many people! Healthy eating I don't get really taunted about more so than just people asking me for advice. A lot of my co-workers see me as the health nut and always ask for advice from me which I'm always more than happy to ramble on about lol. As far as being a vegetarian I always get a lot of negativity for the lifestyle I choose to lead. I don't think people mean to taunt or be rude to me, but when they're constantly telling me, "get some meat on your bones!" It can be hurtful. I handle those situations as best I can though typically asking them not to judge my lifestyle as I don't judge theirs. If they go on and on though I'll start throwing out my nutrition facts of how beneficial a vegetarian lifestyle can not only be to your health but well being as a whole ha :)!
What made you decide to start blogging and what kept you going?
I started blogging in...January of 2010 (had to look through my archives ha!). That was well before my fitness journey, and I didn't really have a purpose to my blog at all. Once I started working out though I discovered the fitness community on tumblr and fell in LOVE. I started blogging my workouts, my lifestyle, my eating, etc. I slowly started getting more and more followers and now it's at the point where I feel like those are my best friends. They're who I turn to for advice, who share common interests, and who I can talk to about health and nutrition and not feel whacko. My blog and my followers are what keep me going. I know if I disappoint myself I'm disappointing them just as much.
What's one interesting thing most people don't know about you?
I do the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer nearly every year. The first time I did it was four years ago and I could barely walk 13 miles on the first day and here I am four years later training to RUN the full 13 miles! But I love the Avon Walk. I've done it twice in Houston, once in NY, and once in California. My mother and I raise $1,800 each to do the walk but it's so worth the cause. The next walk I'm going to be doing is San Fransisco in July of 2012! Day one is 26 miles and day two is 13 miles *whoop*
What's your favorite healthy breakfast?
I have three, is that okay haha? I just go with whatever is available because they're all delicious. Oatmeal (apples&cinnamon), Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal, and Tone it Up pancakes!
What is your one food weakness?
Chocolate. Num num nummm. I have such a weak spot for sweets and turning them down.
What's your ultimate dream job & where do you see yourself in the future?
My ultimate dream job is a pediatric physical therapist :) I already work with kids in gymnastics and I would love to continue doing so long into my future. I don't think I can ever see fitness NOT being in my life anymore. It's become a part of me and who I am as a person now. I would also love to be able to one day complete a marathon. That's a lifetime goal that I hope to one day achieve. Maybe even an Ironman if I can learn how to swim ;)
And finally, what advice would you give to a person who wants to make a healthy change to their life but is intimidated by the whole thing?
Find support! I think my support system has been the best thing that has helped me thus far. Whether it be people you know in real life or just joining in the blogging community. The blogging community is probably the easiest (at least for me) because you can find such like minded people. Create a blog and talk about your journey! Don't feel intimidated at all I promise we don't bite ;)!
And that's a wraps!! Love this chica!! Be sure to go check Chelsea out on her blog!!
